Women’s soccer gets 6 honors in All-Conference awards
WACO – After a historic season, the UHV women's soccer team continues to get recognition.
On Friday, the Red River Athletic Conference announced its 2024 All-Conference teams, which featured six Jaguars.
Senior Estelle Flanagan and graduate senior Kyleigh Spree-Kolos received the highest honors on the team by being named All-RRAC Second Team selections. Sophomore defender Trine Stenderup-Jorgensen was recognized as an Honorable Mention selection while Alva Klockare and Yuvier Borjas were honored on the All-Freshman team. Senior Arianna Rios was named UHV's RRAC Champion of Character representative.
This is the fourth time Flanagan, a forward from McKinney, has been recognized with All-Conference honors and second time on the All-RRAC Second Team. She netted eight goals and four assists in 17 matches to help UHV to its third-highest win total (11) this season and set the new individual career records for Games Played (76) and Games Started (69).
"Estelle had a tireless work rate for us this year," said head coach Adrian Rigby. "She showed great leadership with her work rate and energy in the midfield. Estelle has been a fantastic player for us during her career but enjoyed her best season in 2024."
Spree-Kolos, a Victoria native, returned to her All-Conference ways with her fourth career All-Conference honor. In her graduate year after transferring from Our Lady of the Lake, Spree-Kolos etched her name in the program's record book, setting the new UHV single-season goals record (14) and tying the single-season points record (31).
"The coaching staff is extremely happy that Kyleigh returned to her all conference ability in her senior year at UHV," Rigby said. "She was one of the top strikers in the RRAC this year and dangerous every chance around the goal."
Stenderup-Jorgensen, a native of Aabenraa, Denmark, earned her second consecutive postseason recognition after anchoring a strong back line which held a 1.29 Goals Allowed Average and boasted seven shutouts. She also scored once and provided four assists from her center back position this year.
"Trine was a good leader in the back for us," Rigby said. "She reads the game well and can cover a lot of ground as a center back."
Borjas also helped strengthen UHV's back line as a freshman, appearing in all 17 matches with 12 starts. The Houston native also had a goal and an assist out of the back for the Jaguars.
"She's a solid defender who's fearless in tackles," Rigby said. "Her confidence grew as the season progressed. We're looking forward to continuing her development in the Spring season."
Klockare was strong in the midfield for the Jaguars this season. The Borlange, Sweden, native had a team-leading five assists and also scored once for UHV this year.
"Alva had a good work rate and is a skilled player," Rigby said. "She did well for us in her first year."
Rios, a senior from El Paso was named UHV's Champion of Character representative for her commitment to the CoC's five core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship. She scored her first two career goals this season, including the game winner in UHV's first win over OLLU in 12 years.
"Ari is a well-respected teammate for her passion to return to the game," Rigby said. "She arrived in top fitness and battled through injury to end her senior year on a high note."
The Jaguars reached the conference tournament in 2024 for the third time in the last four seasons.
