Pate turns in another Top 10 finish at the Texarkana Invitational
TEXARKANA, Texas — Texas A&M University–Victoria placed two golfers inside the top 15 as Madeline Pate finished eighth and Kaitlin Lopez claimed 11th at the Texarkana Invitational, which wrapped up on Tuesday.
Pate turned in one of the most consistent performances in the field, finishing at 39‑over for the tournament after rounds of 89 and 94 at Texarkana Country Club.
She opened strong in Round 1, highlighted by a birdie on the par‑3 second hole and steady par play across the middle stretch of the course. Pate added another birdie in Round 2, again capitalizing on the par‑3 second. Her ability to score on par‑5s proved valuable as well; she finished tied for fourth in the field in par‑5 scoring with an average of 6.00.
Pate's work around the greens helped her stay within the top 10 throughout the event, and she closed the tournament tied for first in total birdies with two—one of only three players in the field to record multiple birdies.
Lopez finished 11th overall at 48‑over after rounds of 90 and 102. She opened her tournament with a series of steady pars on holes 7, 9, 11, 12 and 14 during Round 1, navigating one of the tougher stretches of the course. Lopez added another par on the ninth hole during Round 2 and continued to battle through the demanding layout at Texarkana CC.
The Jaguars' next tournament is the Texas Wesleyan Spring Invitational April 13-14.
