Jags heading to Texas Cup in DFW
The UHV women's golf team will look to continue its momentum on Monday when it travels to the Texas Cup hosted by NCAA Division III University of Texas at Dallas at Thorntree Golf Club in DeSoto.
In their last two tournaments, the Claud Jacobs Invitational and Schreiner Shoot-Out, the Jaguars have finished second and third, respectively.
Junior Emmily Bickelmann picked up her first win at Schreiner last week to help UHV to a third place finish. The week prior at the Claud, it was senior Mia Lerma with a third-place individual finish and her first-ever round under par helping the Jaguars tie Rocky Mountain College for second.
Lerma was named the Red River Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for her performance at the team's home tournament. Bickelmann earned the same honor after her win in Kerrville.
Over the last two tournaments, UHV has gotten six individual rounds in the 70s. That helped the Jaguars shave off 21 strokes in the final round of the Claud en route to T-2.
Twin sisters Caitlyn Niemietz and Cecelia Niemietz provided two of those sub-80 scores in the last two tournaments.
Caitlyn shot a career-best 78 in the opening round of the Claud while Cecelia carded the same score in the final round of the Schreiner Shoot-Out.
This week's tournament is the next to last one of the regular season for the Jaguars, who will host the Red River Athletic Conference tournament at Victoria Country Club April 29-May 1.
