A&M-Victoria softball closes regular season with series win
A nine-run third inning powered the Texas A&M University–Victoria softball team to a 10-1 victory over Jarvis Christian on Saturday at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex, closing the regular season on a high note.
The Jaguars erased an early one-run deficit with a relentless offensive surge, turning the game decisively in their favor and securing momentum heading into next week's Red River Athletic Conference Tournament in Pineville, Louisiana.
A&M-Victoria finished the regular season at 26-16 overall and 17-10 in conference play. They will be the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament.
After Jarvis Christian scored once in the top of the first, the Jaguars' pitching staff settled in and the offense quickly followed, breaking the game open in just one inning.
Key Moments
A&M-Victoria tied the game in the third when Angelina Morales reached on an error, allowing Alyssa Carter to score. The Jaguars then took full control, stringing together hit after hit as the inning continued.
Madison Carr delivered a go-ahead double to left to make it 2-1, and Deeandra Maldonado followed with a two-run double to extend the lead. Daizie Fuentez added an RBI single before Carter capped the inning with a three-run double to center, pushing the advantage to 8-1. Morales added another run later in the inning on a fielding error, rounding out the nine-run outburst.
The Jaguars added their final run in the fourth, when Sianna Miller grounded out to second base, scoring Maldonado to make it 10-1.
In the circle, Kailea Freeman rebounded from a first-inning run and shut down Jarvis Christian over three innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out five to earn the win. Madelyn Butler followed with two scoreless innings of relief, retiring six straight batters to close the game and secure the run-rule victory.
Top Performers
Carter led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, igniting the Jaguars at the top of the lineup. Maldonado finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Carr also went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Fuentez delivered a strong all-around performance, collecting two hits, driving in a run and scoring once. Kitty Coe recorded two hits, and Morales reached base twice while scoring a run.
In the pitching circle, Freeman improved to 4-2 on the season, while Butler did not allow a hit in relief.
