A&M-Victoria softball hits the road for three-game set at Louisiana Christian
The Texas A&M University-Victoria softball team is geared up for its final road trip of the regular season.
The Jaguars (22-14, 13-8) head to Pineville, Louisiana, for a three-game, Red River Athletic Conference series against Louisiana Christian University. The series opens with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Friday at Wildcat Park. Saturday's series finale is at 12 p.m.
A&M-Victoria is coming off its second ranked win in as many weeks after taking Game 2 against No. 24 LSU Alexandria last Thursday. The Jaguars hope to use that win to build momentum over the last two weeks of the regular season heading into the conference tournament April 30-May 3 in Pineville.
The Jaguars enter the weekend in fourth place in the RRAC standings, 1.5 games ahead of Texas A&M-San Antonio and 2 games ahead of Louisiana Christian (21-18, 11-10).
Clutch seniors
In last week's 5-4 win over LSUA, the Jaguars got some clutch hits from two seniors in the bottom of the order.
Daizie Fuentez and Fayth Hoover combined to go 3-for-5 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.
Hoover provided the important game-tying double to right field in the sixth before Alyssa Carter came home to score on an error in the seventh to walk it off.
Fuentez, a Victoria native, is one of 13 Jaguars with double-digit RBIs. She's driven in 13 runs during her senior season.
Butler does it again
Madelyn Butler earned her fourth win of the season in Friday's Game 2 win.
The freshman from Leander threw a complete game, allowing just two earned runs on six hits against LSUA.
She boasts a 3.69 ERA over 14 appearances and 43.2 innings with 10 strikeouts. That's helped contribute to a team ERA of 3.82.
As a staff, the Jaguars have given up the second-fewest walks in the conference with 64.
Scouting the Wildcats
Louisiana Christian comes in to the weekend on an eight-game winning streak after sweeping Texas College last week.
The Jaguars own a 9-2 edge in the all-time series, including a win over the Wildcats in the RRAC Tournament last year.
