The Texas A&M University-Victoria softball team is ready for its next test.
The Jaguars (14-6, 5-1) head to San Antonio to resume Red River Athletic Conference play against Our Lady of the Lake this Friday and Saturday, both 12 p.m. doubleheaders. The first three games are conference matchups.
A&M-Victoria is coming off a 4-2 win over Bethel (TN) to close the Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shores on Sunday. The Jaguars also beat Faulkner (AL), 6-2, at the tournament.
The Jaguars are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Softball Coaches' Poll, making them one of four teams from the RRAC to be mentioned in the poll. OLLU is the highest ranked team from the conference at No. 9.
Back-to-back
For the second week in a row, A&M-Victoria softball took home RRAC Player of the Week honors.
Junior Alyssa Carter became the third Jaguar player honored this season on Monday, joining Madison Carr as the two A&M-Victoria players to win Player of the Week. Sophomore pitcher Zoe Hardy was named RRAC Pitcher of the Week earlier this season.
The Sugar Land native hit .438 over five games, driving in four runs with a pair of doubles at the Gulf Coast Invitational. She delivered a decisive two-run double against Bethel (TN) in the tournament finale on Sunday.
Thanks to hits in each of the Jaguars' five games last week, Carter has now hit safely in each of the last 12 games for A&M-Victoria and has hits in 13 of the last 14 games. During her 12-game hitting streak, she's hitting .514 with 13 RBIs.
Carter's 19 RBIs this season is tied for the third most in the RRAC and leads the team.
The Jaguars' 128 runs scored this season ranks 24th nationally while their .344 team batting average ranks 29th.
Angelina Morales leads the way among all qualifying hitters with a .449 average at the plate. She, Carter, Carr and Cristela Trevino are batting over .400 this season.
Expect a pitcher's duel
Both A&M-Victoria and OLLU boast two of the best pitching staffs in the conference.
The Jaguars rank third in the RRAC in ERA at 2.56 while the Saints lead the league with a 2.26 ERA.
Haley Noska leads the team in ERA with a 2.04, which ranks fourth in the conference. Hardy is tied for second in wins with a 7-2 record in the circle following Sunday's win over Bethel (TN).
Noska and Kailea Freeman each have a save this season for the Jaguars. Noska's first save of the year also came in Sunday's tournament finale.
Scouting the Saints
OLLU comes into this week with a 16-3 record overall and a 6-0 mark in RRAC play. The Saints are currently in a three-way tie with No. 16 LSU Alexandria and No. 23 Texas A&M-Texarkana for first place in the conference.
The Jaguars, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Poll, are one game behind those three in the standings.
The Saints hold a 32-29 edge in the all-time series, which dates back to 2010. They won the five meetings last season.
The last time these two met was in a winner's bracket game at the RRAC Tournament on May 2, 2025.
