SAN ANTONIO – Clutch hitting was the name of the game for UHV softball on Tuesday.
The Jaguars swept their Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader against Texas A&M-San Antonio, 1-0 and 9-7, at St. Mary's University.
Allison Snedeker's RBI bunt single in the fourth inning was the difference in Game 1, scoring Kenzie Chambers.
Audrie Sayas earned her fourth shutout and ninth win of the season, allowing seven hits and three walks while striking out a pair in her ninth complete game.
UHV had to rally late in Game 2, plating six runs in the sixth to erase a 5-4 deficit. Kenzie Chambers started the rally with an RBI single.
Claire Blinka, who led the game off with a home run, and Alyssa Carter dealt the big blows in the inning with back-to-back two-run singles to put the Jaguars (19-13, 11-3) up 8-5.
Blinka's 23-game hit streak ended in Game 1, but she bounced back to go 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs. Carter also had a three-RBI performance to go along with a pair of doubles. Both Carter and Chambers were 3-for-4 at the plate. UHV also picked up RBIs from Jayce Bolin, Fayth Hoover and Jasmine Canales.
Jocelyne Galvan earned her fourth win of the season, tossing 2.1 innings of relief behind starter Hope Quinones. Sayas came on in the sixth to hurl 1.1 scoreless innings and earn her first save of the season.
UHV continues its road trip this weekend with doubleheaders at No. 9-ranked LSU Alexandria on Saturday and (RV) Texas A&M-Texarkana on Sunday.
