A&M-Victoria's Kaeppeli takes home RRAC Defensive Player of the Week honors
WACO – Senior goalkeeper Tyler Kaeppeli wrote his name in the Texas A&M University-Victoria men's soccer record books last week.
The Vernon, British Columbia, native became the all-time saves leader for the Jaguars after a seven-save performance in a 5-1 win over Texas Wesleyan last Thursday. He added a pair of saves to up his career total to 148 in a 4-0 win over Dallas Christian College on Saturday as the Jaguars (3-2) extended their winning streak to three games.
On Monday, Kaeppeli was named Red River Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. It's the fourth time the senior shot-stopper has earned the award and he's the first Jaguars honored in weekly awards this season.
"It means a lot to receive this award," Kaeppeli said. "To me, it's really just validation for what we have been trying to accomplish as a team."
Kaeppeli has made 14 saves over five games for the Jaguars, which ranks third in the conference.
His leadership in the back has helped A&M-Victoria's defense boast a 0.33 goals allowed average during the team's three-game win streak.
"I am very proud of Tyler," said head coach Vince Martinez. "He was instrumental in our two wins last week by being a great shot-stopper and a leader for our defense. He deserves any individual awards this season by the way he conducts himself both on the field and off. He is a true professional."
The Jaguars are set to close out non-conference play with home games against Huston-Tillotson on Thursday, and St. Thomas (TX) on Saturday.
