Boonsrirat paces Jags, A&M-Victoria 3rd after Round 1 of RRAC Tournament
HOBBS, New Mexico – Lucky Boonsrirat led the way for the Texas A&M University-Victoria men's golf team in the first round of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.
The senior from New Braunfels is fourth after carding a 77 to open the tournament at the Par 72 Rockwind Community Links. Boonsrirat had a team-leading three birdies in the opening round.
That set the Jaguars on course for a team score of 320 on the first day of the tournament. A&M-Victoria is third heading into Tuesday's second round and 16 strokes off the lead, held by the hosts University of the Southwest.
Paul Chopin closed the first round in a tie for 10th place after carding an opening-round 80. The senior from France wrapped up with 11 pars and a birdie.
Brandon Gratton closed the first day one stroke outside of the Top 10 at T-14 following an 81 in the opening round thanks to seven pars and a birdie.
Florian Simon finished inside the Top 20 after Monday, shooting an 82.
Ethan Armendarez closed out the Jaguars' scores, shooting an 85 to sit 30th after the first round.
The Jaguars will look to climb up the leaderboard when Round 2 gets underway on Tuesday.
