No. 10 A&M-Victoria sweeps Texas College, secures home playoff series
Jags now two wins away from RRAC regular season title
The Texas A&M University–Victoria baseball team wrapped up a dominant weekend in emphatic fashion Friday, rolling past Texas College 18–8 in Game 3 at Riverside Stadium to complete a series sweep of the Steers.
With the victory, the Jaguars locked up a home playoff series in the Red River Athletic Conference first round, scheduled for April 24–25, and moved one step closer to making history.
A&M–Victoria also edged nearer to its first-ever RRAC regular season championship. The Jaguars' magic number to clinch the title — a combination of A&M–Victoria wins and LSU Shreveport losses — dropped to two following Saturdayday's win. A&M–Victoria improved to 32–11 overall and 20–4 in conference play, while Texas College fell to 2–24 overall and 2–22 in the RRAC.
After a back-and-forth opening frame, the Jaguars blew the game open with a 10-run second inning, sending 15 batters to the plate and seizing control for good. A&M–Victoria scored in seven of the game's eight innings and finished with 18 runs on 13 hits, drawing 13 walks and capitalizing on multiple Steers miscues.
Key Moments
Texas College struck first with an RBI single in the top of the first, but A&M–Victoria answered immediately when Beck Zimmerman drove in Antonio Benitez to tie the game.
The turning point came in the bottom of the second. Zimmerman ignited the rally with a two-run single, followed by a two-run double from Connor Kaiser. After a successful double steal — capped by Kaiser swiping home — the inning continued with RBI doubles from Jackson Purcell and Ty Boozer, along with two more runs forced home via bases-loaded walks.
The Jaguars kept their foot on the gas, adding two runs in both the third and fourth innings to stretch the lead to 15–5. Texas College mounted a brief push with three runs in the seventh, but A&M–Victoria responded immediately with an RBI groundout later in the frame and tacked on an insurance run in the eighth to seal the sweep.
