A&M-Victoria baseball’s hot streak lands Top 10 spot in NAIA Poll
The Texas A&M University-Victoria baseball team has been one of the hottest teams in the country for the last couple of weeks.
The Jaguars (29-7, 16-2) are currently on a 14-game winning streak after sweeping then-No. 1 LSU Shreveport over the weekend. The 14-game winning streak is the second-longest in the NAIA and the fourth-longest among all four-year baseball programs.
That hot streak landed A&M-Victoria back in the NAIA rankings on Wednesday.
In the third coaches' poll of the season, the Jaguars came in at No. 10. A&M-Victoria opened the season at No. 20 in the preseason poll and were receiving votes in each of the previous two regular season polls.
Right now, the Jaguars rank 25th in the NAIA in batting average with a team mark of .325. During this winning streak, A&M-Victoria is hitting .354 with seven batters over the .300 line.
The Jaguars' pitching staff is 21st in the nation now with a 4.23 ERA and 278 strikeouts. Over the course of the last 14 games, A&M-Victoria has boasted a 3.99 staff ERA with 119 strikeouts. Blane Zeplin ranks second nationally with 77 strikeouts and Jonathan Jones is tied for the NAIA lead in wins with eight.
Garrett Smith and Jacob Baker took home the team's sixth and seventh Red River Athletic Conference weekly honors after sweeping Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, this week.
A&M-Victoria goes on the road this week for a three-game series against LSU Alexandria (26-10, 14-4) on Thursday and Friday.
