Another season-high output paces A&M-Victoria baseball to run-rule win
For the second consecutive game this season, the Texas A&M University-Victoria baseball team posted a season-high offensive output.
The Jaguars used 20 hits to down Jarvis Christian 17-4 in seven innings on Friday at Riverside Stadium. The total for runs and hits are the most by A&M-Victoria (17-9, 8-2) this season.
A&M-Victoria had an eight-run third inning and, later, used a five-run sixth to punctuate an emphatic win on Little League Appreciation Night.
The pregame ceremony recognizing Victoria Southeast Little League drew 854 fans out to the ballpark to watch the hometown team earn their fourth straight win.
Key Moments
The Jaguars opened the floodgates with an eight-run third inning to jump out to a 10-0 lead at the time.
A two-run double by Jose Montanez and an RBI double by Jackson Purcell set the stage for a two-run home run by Ty Boozer, his second career home run. Beck Zimmerman had an RBI single three batters later before Connor Kaiser's two-run double capped the inning which saw 15 Jaguars come to the plate.
Boozer and Zimmerman each had an RBI in the fourth to make it 12-1.
During a five-run sixth inning, A&M-Victoria saw Ujyo Biles and Colby Beck record their first RBIs as Jaguars. For Beck, a redshirt freshman, he got his first career hit to go with his first career RBI in his first career at-bat with a single to center field.
Zion Hankins started scoring with a two-run double in the inning. Jackson Ulcak also had an RBI single to round out the scoring for the Jaguars.
Top Performers
Boozer led the way, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs thanks to his two-run shot.
Kaiser and Purcell each had three-hit performances with Kaiser providing two RBIs.
The Jaguars also got multi-RBI showings from Zimmerman, Montanez, Hankins and Josiah Taylor, whose two-run single in the second inning opened the scoring. In total, nine players picked up RBIs for A&M-Victoria's offense.
Jonathan Jones earned his sixth win of the season, going five innings and allowing one run on eight hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
Dawson Orsak came on for two innings of relief and struck out a career-high three batters over the two frames.
Next Up
The Jaguars will look to close out the series with a pair of wins at tomorrow's 12:30 p.m. doubleheader. Tomorrow is also the team's annual BBQ plate fundraiser and silent auction. Fans who purchased a plate can pick up their meal starting at 10 a.m.
