SHREVEPORT, La. – The UHV baseball team did its best to keep one of the nation's top offenses in check on Saturday.
But it wasn't enough as the No. 14-ranked Jaguars fell, 2-0, to No. 1-ranked LSU Shreveport at Pilot Field in the finale of a three-game Red River Athletic Conference series.
Julian Garcia delivered a gem despite being on the losing end of the decision.
The senior right-hander threw a complete game, allowing just the two runs on four hits while striking out a season-high 10 batters in eight innings.
Rafael Gutierrez led the way offensively for UHV (34-13, 19-8), going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Jean Michael Gonzalez also had a hit, a double in the third inning.
Both of the runs for the Pilots (44-0, 27-0) came in the third inning on singles by Ryan Davenport and Vantrel Reed.
The Jaguars return home next week to face LSU Alexandria for a three game series and Homecoming.
