ALEXANDRIA, La. – The University of Houston-Victoria women's soccer team was forced to play defense most of the game Saturday and in the end it paid off for the LSU-Alexandria Generals.

The Generals tallied a pair of goals in each half and used the unanswered string of goals to capture a 4-1 victory over the Jaguars in a Red River Athletic Conference match at Generals Field.

UHV falls to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in conference, while the Generals improve to 7-2-1, 3-0 RRAC.

The Generals pounded the ball putting up 16 shots, including eight on goal, to just two shots, both on goal for the Jaguars.

The Jaguars made their opening shot of the match pay dividends to grab a 1-0 lead.

Yahajaira Lara (SR/Laredo, TX) fired a long pass down the right side to Jurnee Fernandez (JR/Fresno, CA) who then split two LSUA defenders with a prefect cross back to Lara in the middle of the box. Lara then fired the shot past the LSUA goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.

That would be all the offense the Jaguars would be able to muster against the Generals, except for a second-half shot by Fernandez.

The Generals tied the game in the 19th minute off a goal by Abby Angelle who headed a cross just under the crossbar for a 1-1 game.

Jessica Sanchez then gave the Generals the lead off a free kick in the 26th minute, as LSUA went into the half up 2-1.

Both teams continued to battle defensively in the second half until the Generals scored back-to-back goals in a four minute span.

Fallon Roussell hits first in the 71st minute and Kayleigh Lambrechts added the final goal in the 75th minute.

UHV goalkeeper Bianca Galindo (SR/Garland, TX) finished with four saves.

The Jaguars return home to host Paul Quinn in their home opener on Thursday at the Cage. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

In other RRAC action Saturday, Houston St. Thomas defeated LSU-Shreveport 5-0, and Our Lady of the Lake downed Texas College 4-0.
