SHREVEPORT, La. – The University of Houston-Victoria men's soccer team recorded its second straight Red River Athletic Conference shutout Thursday with a 2-0 victory over the LSU-Shreveport Pilots at The Swamp.

 

The Jaguars scored both goals in the second half to improve to 3-1 on the year and 2-0 in conference. The Pilots fell to 6-3, 0-2 in RRAC play.

 

After a scoreless first half Espen Hansen (JR/Kristiansand, Norway) broke up the shutout in the 52nd minute when his header off a cross from Adrian Rodriguez (FR/McAllen, TX) got past LSUS goalkeeper Yoran Van Houdt for a 1-0 lead.

 

Leonel Rivas (JR/Edinburg, TX) added an insurance goal in the 75th minute as the Jaguars converted on two of their three shots on goal in the game.

 

LSUS outshot the Jaguars 12-9 and held a 5-1 edge in shots on goal, but UHV goalkeeper Palemon Plancarte (JR/Houston, TX) was able to fend off everything that came his way and finished with four saves.

 

Hansen and Gian Marco Zancanaro (JR/Bassano del Grappa, Italy) each had two shots for the Jaguars, while Rivas, Rodriguez, Isaac Ramirez-Garcia (SO/Victoria, TX), Samuel Ashun (SO/McKinney), and Sanad Jalajal (FR/Sugar Land, TX) each had one.

 

In other RRAC action Thursday, Our Lady of the Lake rolled by Jarvis Christian 11-0, LSU-Alexandria edged Houston St. Thomas 1-0 and Huston-Tillotson battled to a draw against Texas College 0-0. In non-conference play, Texas A&M-Texarkana defeated Paul Quinn 5-3.

 

The Jaguars return to action Saturday when the face off against LSUA in a 3:30 p.m. match in Alexandria.
