The University of Houston-Victoria men's and women's golf teams will each be playing in three fall tournaments as the Jaguars prepare to tee off the 2017-18 season.
Head coach Christi Cano today announced her fall schedule which will include the annual UHV Fall Classic in September.
The UHV men's team will open the season on Sept. 10-12 at the Texas Intercollegiate Golf Classic in Fort Worth. The event is hosted by Texas Wesleyan University.
Both the men's and women's teams will be in action Sept. 24-26 when the Jaguars host the 4th annual UHV Fall Classic. The women finished third last year, while the men placed fifth..
The women will then return to the Alamo City Classic at the Quarry Golf Club in San Antonio after a year's absence. The event is scheduled for Oct. 15-17 and is hosted by Trinity University.
The women wrap up their fall season on Oct. 22-24 at the Tyler Junior College Fall Invitational.
The UHV men will cap their fall season on Oct. 30-13 at the Dr Pepper Classic hosted by McLennan Community College.
A number of new faces are expected to greet the women's team this season, while the men's squad returns nearly intact from last year.
Coach Cano will have six freshmen joining her three returnees Jo Ellen Canales, Reid Whaley and Viviana Yzquierdo, on the women's side. The freshmen include Jocelyn Villafranca of Cuero, Kelsey Torres and Lorrin Dickey of Victoria, Leah Lerma of Mission, Victoria Garcia of Brownsville, and Viviana Puente of San Antonio.
The men's team will have three new members this season and include Nolan Hays, Joey Hunter and Sam Lucas. Cristian Esparza, Adrian Saenz, Terry Strickland, Juan David Coy and James Rollins, who turned in a second place finish in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament lasyt year, are all expected to return for the Jaguars.
