Four of the six University of Houston-Victoria athletic teams were recognized as NAIA Scholar-Teams on Tuesday by the National Association of Collegiate Athletics.

A total of 1,677 teams earned the distinction for the 2016-17 academic year. For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team GPA includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.

UHV teams recognized included softball (3.39 GPA), women's soccer (3.31), women's golf (3.16) and men's soccer (3.05). Last year, only the UHV softball and women's soccer programs were recognized.

Arizona Christian's women's cross country team, Indiana Tech's women's golf team and Midland's (Neb.) women's volleyball team all tied for an NAIA-best combined 3.90 GPA to share Scholar-Team of the Year honors.
