Slightly over half of the University of Houston-Victoria student-athletes were recognized this week earning Red River Athletic Conference GPA Awards for the 2016-17 academic year.

In just the second year of competition in the RRAC, the Jaguars had 61 student-athletes recognized on Monday for academic success.

 

The UHV men's soccer team led the way with 16 players earning the award, while the women's soccer team followed with 15. The UHV softball team produced 12 conference GPA award winners, followed by baseball with 10 and golf with eight.

 

Individual student-athletes who achieved a 3.0 GPA of better for the year are recognized as RRAC scholar-athletes.

 

Among the men soccer players earning the honor were Oladipo Akintunde (SO/Sugar Land, TX), Marco Alanis (SO/Alton, TX), Samuel Ashun (SO/McKinney), Brian Foulger (SR/Leighton Buzzard, England), Uriel Garcia (SO/Pharr, TX), Reece Hannigan (SR/Sutton Surrey, England), Espen Hansen (JR/Kristiansand, Norway), Miguel Hernandez, Steve Kamgang (SR/Dallas, TX), Connor McGillivray, Jose Munoz (JR/Houston, TX), Brody Patience (SO/Douglas, Isle of Man), Jonathan Pitts (FR/Hemel Hempstead, UK), Stanley Smith, Ben Taylor, and Juan Vega.

 

Recognized from the women's soccer team were Maya Ballez, Amy Burrows (JR/Glasgow, Scotland), Caroline Carvajal, Kelly Cook (JR/Dripping Springs, TX), Kaylee Creagh (FR/Mabank, TX), Treysi Diaz Deleon (SR/Dallas, TX), Tristan Hanks, Yahajaira Lara (SR/Laredo, TX), Jaiden Lauterbach (JR/Fort Worth, TX), Lauren Leslie (JR/Banknock, Scotland), Emily Lupton (SR/Preston, England), Chase O'Brien, Jordyn Olle, Maddison Walker-Decker (JR/Austin, TX), and Amber Zola.

 

Named to the award from softball were Haley Beam, Savannah Crittenden, Gabby Davila (JR/Houston, TX), Alyssa Dial (JR/Victoria, TX), Jamison Dumont (JR/Pleasanton, TX), Emily Flores (SO/Houston, TX), Madeline Herrera (SR/Baytown, Texas), Jordan Hoefling (JR/Victoria, TX), Marissa Longoria (SO/Houston, TX), Jamie Macek (SO/Boling, TX), Michelle Revels (JR/Corpus Christi, TX),  and Kathryn Wright.

 

Recognized from the baseball team were Luke Alexander, Chase Almendarez (SR/Round Rock, TX), Ross Bludau (SR/Schulenburg, TX), Blake Henneke, Derek Maciejeski (SO/Tomball, TX), Cesar Martinez, Collin Quinn (SO/El Campo, TX), Andrew Richards (SO/Sugar Land, TX), Collin Schaaf (SR/Needville, TX) and Chase Tamez (JR/Cypress, TX).

 

Earning the honor from golf were Juan David Coy (JR/Bucaramanga, Colombia), Corey Rodriguez (SO/San Marcos, TX), James Rollins (SO/Liberty Hill, TX), Adrian Saenz (JR/Brownsville, TX), Terry Strickland (SO/Missouri City, TX), Preston Woodard (SR/Mansfield, TX), Shelbi Vincent and Viviana Yzquierdo (SO/Barbers Hills, TX).

 

Winning the overall 2016-17 RRAC GPA Award for the second straight year was the University of the Southwest with a cumulative GPA of 3.18.
