PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – The University of Houston-Victoria men's golf team will have easy defense of its title at the 31st annual PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championships after Haskell Indian Nations University withdrew from the event.

The Jaguars are the lone NAIA team competing in the NAIA division and opened the tournament Friday with a 315 score. The opening-round score would have the Jaguars in the thick of the pack in the Division II tournament.

Juan David Coy (SO/Bucaramanga, Colombia) paced the Jaguars with a 3-over par 75, while Terry Strickland (FR/Missouri City, TX) followed with a 79. Cristian Esparza (JR/Houston, TX), the defending individual champion in the NAIA Division, is in with an 80, and is followed by Adrian Saenz (SO/Brownsville, TX) and James Rollins (FR/Liberty Hill, TX), who both posted 81s.

The Jaguars will begin teeing off in the second round on Saturday at 7:05 a.m. and will be playing with Cal State-Dominguez Hill and Livingstone College.
