The University of Houston-Victoria men's golf team will begin defense of their PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship title on Friday when the 31st annual event tees off at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

The Jaguars, making their fourth straight appearance at the tournament, have won two of the three events they have participated in and were the runner-up in the other event.

The title will be up for grabs between the Jaguars and Haskell Indian Nations University, the only two schools entered in the men's NAIA Division to be played on the par-72, 6,845 yard Wanamaker Course.

The tournament will be contested over three days with the opening round scheduled for Friday and the final round for Sunday.

Representing UHV at the tournament will be Cristian Esparza (JR/Houston, TX), Adrian Saenz (SO/Brownsville, TX), Terry Strickland (FR/Missouri City, TX), Juan David Coy (SO/Bucaramanga, Colombia) and James Rollins (FR/Liberty Hill, TX).

Esparza leads the group off the tee Friday with a 10:18 tee times, followed by Saenz (10:27), Strickland (10:36), Coy (10:45) and Rollins (10:54). The group will be playing with the University of West Alabama and Virginia Union University.

Esparza claimed the individual title last year posting rounds of 80-76-82-238, while Saenz finished fifth individually.

Play resumes Saturday and concludes Sunday. Tee times each day begin at 6:30 a.m.
