Victoria East Titans Lorrin Dickey and Kelsey Torres became the first two University of Houston-Victoria women's golf signees.

The Titan teammates signed their letters of intent to play golf for the Jaguars on Tuesday.

Both have been part of a very successful high school golf program that has claimed back-to-back district championships and berths to the Region IV-5A Tournament.

The duo helped lead the Jaguars to a fourth-place regional finish last year where Dickey posted a 36-hole total of 176 after rounds of 89-87. Torres followed with rounds of 95-94-189.

The duo just recently helped the Titans claim their second straight district title as Dickey finished sixth with an 89-92-181, while Torres placed eighth with a 97-88-185. Both golfers will back on the course April 24-25 at the regional tournament at the Golf Club of Texas in San Antonio.

During her high school career, Dickey was named second team all-district as a junior and first team all-district this past season. She has also been recognized as the Top Academic Athlete and Leadership Award for 2016, along with being named academic all-district.

Off the golf course, she is a member of the National Honor Society and will graduate in the top five percent of her graduating class.

"I'm really excited to see what I can do at the college level," said Dickey, on signing her letter of intent.

Dickey plans to major in business while attending UHV.

Torres has earned the East Most Improved Award in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and was named all-district first team in 2016.

"UHV is a great academic school and it's a small college so it's easier to connect with professors," said Torres. "This is a big day for me. Last year I had no idea I was going to get signed to play college golf."

Assistant UHV coach Christi Cano is looking forward to working with both girls.

"They are hard workers and I'm looking forward to working with them and to help them improve their games," said Cano. "I feel they will be a big asset to our program."
