The University of Houston-Victoria softball team will host Texas Southern University in a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m. at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex.


The Jaguars come into the contest with a 14-10 record and are coming of a 1-3 conference series with LSU-Alexandria. Texas Southern comes in with a 9-7 record and opened SWAC play by taking two of three from Alabama A&M.


After splitting last year's series two games apiece the Jaguars come into the contests holding an 18-12 edge in the series that dates back to 2009.


Texas Southern also comes into the games holding a 5-0 record over Red River Athletic Conference schools this season. The Lady Tigers have beaten Our Lady of the Lake 6-4 and 8-5, Huston-Tillotson 3-0, Jarvis Christian 8-0 and Langston College 11-0.


The Lady Tigers come into the contest paced by Jocilynn Ellis at the plate. Ellis has a team-leading .387 batting average with nine runs and four RBI. Sierra Valdez (.289) and Dominque Tello (.279) lead the team with 11 RBI.


Lauren Rodriguez leads the pitching staff with a 1.64 ERA and a 3-3 record. She has struck out 33 and walked 10 in 38.1 innings.


After taking the opening game of the series 5-3, the Jaguars lost three one-run games to LSUA.


Gabby Davila (SO/Houston, TX) leads the Jaguars at the plate with a .373 average, while Aubri Hockenbury (SR/Santa Fe, TX) is hitting at a .307 clip and leads the team with six home runs and 21 RBI.


Haley Beam (SR/Pearland, Texas) continues to be the ace of the staff with an 8-3 record and a 1.20 ERA.


Following Tuesday's doubleheader, the Jaguars jump back into RRAC action when they host Langston in a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
