HOBBS, N.M. – The University of the Southwest Mustangs used a seven-run seventh inning Saturday to complete a three-game sweep over the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars in a Red River Athletic Conference contest at Jake Williams Field.

After the Jaguars (6-12, 3-6 RRAC) tied the contest at 5-5 with four runs in the seventh, the Mustangs (16-12, 7-2 RRAC) answered back blowing the contest open with seven runs in the bottom of the inning en route to a 13-6 victory. The victory capped off a three-game sweep for the Mustangs over the Jaguars.

The Mustangs used a pair of runs in the second and three more in the fourth to open a 5-0 advantage.

The Jaguars began chipping away in the fifth with a solo run. Joshua Fonseca broke up the shutout with a run-scoring double to right-center scoring Chase Almendarez, who had walked.

Jacob Mihalski (JR/League City, TX) got the scoring going for the Jaguars in the seventh with a sacrifice fly that scored Almendarez. Allen Westmoreland (SR/Pearland, TX) then unleashed a two-out, three-run home run to right to tie the game at 5-5.

Things fell apart in the bottom of the seventh as the Mustangs banged out seven hits and took advantage of one UHV error to plate seven runs for a 12-5 lead.

Both teams added runs in the eighth with UHV's run coming on a one-out, solo home run by Dalton Rodriguez (SR/Bay City, TX).

The Jaguars will return to action Tuesday in Austin when they face St. Edward's University in a 2:30 p.m. contest.
