The 18th-ranked University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars will tangle with No. 22 LSU-Alexandria in a key four-game conference series beginning Friday. The series starts with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and concludes with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
The Jaguars enter the contest holding a 22-15 edge over the Generals in the series that dates back to 2008. However, LSUA has won nine of the last 11 meetings as the two teams split the four-game conference series last year.
UHV brings a 13-7 overall and 6-2 conference record into the contest, while LSUA currently stands at 21-5, 4-0.
It will be the conference's top pitching staff going against the conference's top hitting team this time around.
LSUA leads the conference with a .353 team batting average, is No. 1 in runs scored (6.65 per game) and RBI per game (5.92).
The Jaguars pitching staff meanwhile leads the conference with a 1.35 ERA, is No. 1 in runs allowed per game (2.15) and opponent batting average (.236).
The Generals have three players hitting over .400, including conference leader Dani Billings (.481), who also leads the conference with 33 RBI. Julinn Torres follows Billings with a .413 average and 25 RBI, while Kennedy Beard has a .404 average.
Billings also leads the team with nine home runs, while Torres leads the team with 11 doubles.
Marci West leads the LSU-A pitching staff with a 10-3 record and a 2.14 ERA, while Madison Resch is 6-1 and Kasey Cazares is 3-0.
For the Jaguars, senior Haley Beam (SR/Pearland, Texas) and sophomore Michelle Revels (SO/Corpus Christi, TX) have provided the one-two punch for the Jaguars in the circle while senior Savannah Crittenden (SR/LaPorte, TX) is sidelined with an injury.
Beam leads the conference with a 0.88 ERA and is 7-3 with six complete games in 10 starts. Revels has a 3-2 record with a 1.45 ERA, while Torey Dumont (SO/Pleasanton, TX) is 1-1 with a .263 ERA and Kelsey Tidrick (FR/Port Lavaca, TX) is 0-0 with a 2.00 ERA in providing depth for the Jaguars.
Gabby Davila (SO/Houston, TX) leads the Jaguars at the plate with a .400 average, while Beam follows with a .350 mark and a team-leading 16 RBI.
