University of Houston-Victoria forward Espen Hansen (SO/Kristiansand, Norway) made sure Texas College would not be able to rally back this time around Saturday.
Hansen converted his first collegiate hat trick to help carry the Jaguars to a 5-1 win over the Steers in a Red River Athletic Conference quarterfinal match at the UHV Cage.
The Jaguars (10-6-1) advance to the RRAC semifinals where they will face Wiley College in a 6:30 p.m. match on Thursday in Houston. Texas College ends the season at 8-9-3.
Texas College rallied with two late goals in an early meeting to come away with a 3-3 tie in double overtime, but there would be no rally this time around.
Brian Foulger (JR/Leighton Buzzard, England) would strike again for the Jaguars just before halftime when he would take a pass from Janai Zavala (SO/Houston, TX) and deposited into the left corner of the net for a 2-0 UHV lead in the 42nd minute.
Hansen would strike for the next two UHV goals, his first coming in the 54th minute of an assist from Arriaga.
Hansen would finish off the hat trick with his third goal in the 61st minute with an assist from Vega.
Arriaga would finish off the scoring when he nailed a free kick in the 64th minute for a 5-0 advantage.
The Steers would avoid the shutout when Sergio Herrera would convert on a free kick in the 78th minute.
The Jaguars dominated the game outshooting the Steers 19-9, including a 13-3 edge in shots on goal.
Hansen led the way with six shots, with five on goal, while Arriaga, Steve Kamgang (JR/Dallas, TX), Zavala and Foulger each had two shots.
Brian Redmond (SR/Tullamore, Ireland) was in goal for the Jaguars collecting two saves.
It's the second straight year for the Jaguars to reach the RRAC semifinals.
