The University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars earned a split of their season opening double header against Northwood University, the number 25 team in the country.
The Northwood University Knights took advantage of some Jaguars miscues to score 5 runs in the third inning of game one to win the season opener for both teams 5-1.

Trent Montgomery earned the win.  Pete Ontiveros, making his Jaguars debut,  took the loss as he gave up only one earned run while scattering 6 hits in 5 innings of work.

Both team's pitching staff benefited from a strong north wind that kept many well hit balls inside Riverside Stadium.  Fans in attendance were wrapped in blankets and parkas to keep warm as a winter cold front moved through the area and kept temperatures in the 40's and a severe wind chill made it feel much colder.

David Baker drove in two runs, including the game winner in the fifth inning as the Jaguars rallied for the 3-2 win.  Sean Thomas scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2.  The Jags cut the lead in half with a run in the third, when Baker's sacrifice fly scored Ryan Gilbert.

The Knights scored 2 in the top of the second inning to take an early lead, before Houston native Daniel Lopez settled down and retired the next 16 batters he faced.

The Jaguars and Knights will close out the four game series with a doublheader tomorrow afternoon, beginning at 1 p.m.

The Wells Fargo Stagecoach will be on hand for rides and photos beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the gang from Wells Fargo will also be giving out food and beverages.  All fans in attendance will receive magnet schedules courtesy of Wells Fargo.
