Tenth-ranked Northwood won the first Claud Jacobs Collegiate Invitational hosted by UHV on Monday.
Despite struggling through his opening round, UHV's Steven Jones fought his way back to finish tied for 10th place Monday at the University of Houston-Victoria's Claud Jacobs Collegiate Invitational at Victoria Country Club.
Jones posted rounds of 81-73-72-226 to pace the Jaguars in the event. Vance Edwards followed Jones with a 78-76-81-235, while Colton Martin added a 79-81-80-240, William Dawson-Hicks an 84-79-78-241, and William "Jake" Truss an 83-83-81-247. Jesse Acosta, playing as an individual medalist, posted an 88-89-83-260.
After struggling from the start, the Jaguars finished 12th in the event posting rounds of 321-309-311 for a 941.
Tenth-ranked Northwood came from four shots back to win the star-studded event that included eight top 25 preseason ranked teams in the 12-team field.
Northwood posted a final round 295 to slip past No. 1-ranked Texas Wesleyan, who began the day tied for first, by three shots for the team title. Northwood finished at 903, while Texas Wesleyan posted a 906. Wayland Baptist, ranked No. 20, finished third at 909, while second-ranked Oklahoma City followed a 912, and third-ranked California State-San Marcos came in at 913.
Northwood's Joss Gosling captured individual honors with a 72-73-73-218.
