The first taste of the NAIA Championships was a bitter one for the UHV Jaguars.
It was a good old pitchers duel between Jaguars' starter Tasha Rotramel and Saint Xavier's Jalyn for the first five and a half innings before the Cougars chased Rotramel from the game in the sixth.
10 Cougars came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth, resulting in all four runs and Rotramel's exit after the Cougars had taken a three run lead. Lauren Garza inherited two runners and the fourth Cougar run scored on a squueze play. Garza struck out Megan Paradzinski to end the inning.
The game's momentum seemed to shift from the Jaguars to the Cougars after the fifth inning, when the Jags loaded the bases but came away empty and then went down in order in the top of the sixth.
The Jaguars next game is tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. against SCAD.
