Two UHV teams were crowned conference champions this weekend.
The Jaguars softball team beat California State University San Marcos 9-4 to capture the inaugural Association of Independent Institutions softball championship in Thomasville, Georgia.
The Jaguars went a perfect 3-0 in the 6 team, double-elimination, tournament. Jaguars pitcher Tasha Rotramel was named tournament MVP, after posting two wins and one save in the three games.
The Jaguars softball team advances to the NAIA Softball National Championship May 14-20 in Decatur, Alabama.
UHV was the host school for the 2009 A.I.I. Basball Championship and the Jaguars delighted the hometown crowd by winning the championship with a 6-2 victory over Lambuth University.
The Eagles forced a second championship game after beating the Jags 16-11 in Championship Game one.
The baseball team advances to the opening round of the NAIA World Series. The location of the opening round will be announced later this week.
