The University of Houston-Victoria softball team will open its Spring 2012 season on Feb. 3-4 in the Galveston College Invitational.
The Jaguars, ranked No. 10 in the NAIA preseason poll, open play on Friday against San Jacinto College at 8 a.m. The Jaguars then face McLennan College at 10 a.m. and finish the day with a 2 p.m. matchup with Temple College.
The Jaguars return to the field on Saturday to face Western Texas at 8 a.m. before facing off with Murray State College at noon. UHV wraps up play in the tournament at 4 p.m. against Seminole.
The Jaguars open the 2012 season with their entire pitching staff back from last season's 37-18 squad. UHV lost only two starters off the 2011 team in first baseman Courtney Pettit and third baseman Allison Hinton.
Six seniors return to lead the Jaguars this season an include pitchers Emily Bergstrom and Baylea Wagener and infielder Kelly King, along with outfielders Kori Kocian, Bre'Neka O'Bryant and Kayla Lindeman.
The Jaguars' home opener is set for Sunday, Feb. 12, with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Huston-Tillotson at the St. Joseph-O'Connor Sports Complex.
