University of Houston-Victoria junior outfielder John Longoria has been selected to the 2011 NAIA Baseball All-Americans honorable mention team.

Longoria (Spring) was one of 36 players selected to the honorable mention team, while 17 players were selected to each the first and second teams.

Longoria started 55 games for the Jaguars and paced the team in nearly every statistical category. He compiled a team-leading .374 batting average going 70-for-187 at the plate with 50 RBI, 38 runs, 23 doubles six home runs and four triples. He compiled a .636 slugging percentage and a .414 on-base percentage, while drawing 12 walks and stealing 14 bases.

Playing mostly in right field and at first base, he finished the season with a .976 fielding average committing five errors in 211 chances. He had 192 putouts and 14 assists.

"John has demonstrated the discipline and work ethic that we try to find and build into our student athletes," UHV head coach Terry Puhl said. "His focus has always been on academics and his being named to the honorable mention team is so worthy."

Longoria becomes the first UHV player to earn All-American honors since Ray Maldonado and Zane Williams earned second-team honors in 2009.

Oklahoma City's Kirk Walker was named to 2011 Rawlings-NAIA Player of the Year.
