THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The University of Houston-Victoria's reign in the Association of Independent Institutions baseball conference championships came to an end Friday.

The California State University-San Marcos Cougars twice defeated the Jaguars to claim the 2011 title with a 10-3 win over UHV in the championship game.

The Cougars (32-17) came into the tournament as the top seed and proved why as they banged out 10 hits Friday against five UHV pitchers in claiming the title from the two-time defending champions.

CSUSM reached the final with a wild 21-13 win over the Jaguars on Thursday and picked up right where they left off scoring a pair of runs in each of the first two innings off UHV starter Rex Garner.

Austin Coleman got things rolling with a two-out, two-run home run in the first and Trent Jammett drove in two more in the second with a two-out single to left.

The Jaguars (32-25) went 1-2-3 through the first three innings, before Austin Kent beat out an infield single, but he was doubled up on a Ryan Suescun grounder to short.

The Cougars would add three more runs in the fourth to build the lead to 7-0.

The Jaguars broke through in the fifth with an unearned run as Cory Hulsey reached on a two-base error, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Ryan Gilbert.

The Cougars answered back in the sixth with three more runs behind a two-run double from Kevin Silvett for a 10-1 lead.

UHV would pick up two more unearned runs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Jerrod Dugas and an RBI single from Brandon Bohanon.

California State-San Marcos now advances to the NAIA opening round of the National Championships set for next week.
