The University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars baseball games scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Northwood University in Cedar Hill have been cancelled due to bad weather.

Rain has soaked the playing field and the forecast for the weekend calls for more showers.

"Northwood head coach Jeremy Kennedy called to give us a heads up on the forecast for this weekend and it doesn't look good," UHV Athletic Director Ashley Walyuchow said. "After conferring with him and our head baseball coach, Terry Puhl, we decided to cancel the trip."

Puhl reacted to the news with disappointment.

"It's unfortunate for the players, since Northwood is a very competitive team," Puhl said. "We still have a home game scheduled Sunday and six other games next week."

On Sunday, the Jaguars will host Cardinal Stritch University starting at 2 p.m.

The canceled games will be replaced by an extra home game against Fisher College and a road game at Texas A & M Corpus Christi. UHV will play a doubleheader against Fisher College starting at 4 p.m. March 21 at Riverside Stadium. The date was originally scheduled as a single game.

The new away game will be played at 2 p.m. March 25 at Chapman Field in Corpus Christi.

"This is a great opportunity to play an NCAA Division 1 program," Puhl said. "It's a different level of ball and will be a great experience as we gear up for the upcoming tournament."

Victoria will host the first Association of Independent Institutions National Baseball Championship April 30 through May 3. The top teams in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics without conference affiliation will play in Riverside Stadium. As the host team, the Jaguars are guaranteed one of the four tournament berths.
