The University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars rallied from an eight-run deficit Friday to earn a split with the Our Lady of the Lady Saints in a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader at Riverside Stadium.

After dropping a 9-7 decision in Game 1 to the Saints, the Jaguars scored nine runs down the stretch of Game 2 to rally for an 11-10 victory.

The Jaguars improve to 20-23 on the year and 13-13 in conference, while the Saints are now 22-26 and 12-12.

After OLLU went up 10-3 with a five run sixth, the Jaguars tallied eight runs over the next three innings to pull out the victory.

Jacob Atkinson (SO/Harlingen, TX) and Andrew Gross (SR/Alvin, TX) started the comeback with a pair of RBI singles in the sixth and Atkinson highlighted a four-run eighth with a three-run home run. The Jaguars then struck for a pair of unearned runs in the eighth on an RBI fielder's choice by Derek Maciejeski (FR/Tomball, TX) and an RBI single from Garrett Gray-Mathis (FR/Smithville, TX).

Nathaniel Pena (FR/Angleton, TX) worked the final two innings to earn the inning as it got a strike them out, throw them out double play to end the game. Pena is now 4-3 on the year.

The Saints scored in every inning of the first game to dash any hopes of the Jaguars' postseason.

Gross hit his team-leading 15th home run of the season in the opening game, a two-run shot in the fifth. He is now one home run shy of tying the UHV career home run mark of 38 set by David Baker.

Gross finish the first game going 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Atkinson was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs. Chase Tamez (SO/Cypress, TX) and Joshua Fonseca (SO/Pasadena, TX) were each 2-for-4.

Collin Quinn (FR/El Campo, TX) was tagged with the loss for the Jaguars after allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk with one strikeout over four innings.

The Jaguars and Saints resume the series on Saturday with a noon doubleheader.
