ALEXANDRIA, La. – Aubri Hockenbury (SR/Santa Fe, TX) belted two home runs to help spark the No. 18 University of Houston-Victoria to a split with the No. 22 LSU-Alexandria Generals in a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday.
Hockenbury hit both of her home runs in the opener to lead the Jaguars(14-8, 7-3 RRAC) to a 5-3 win, before the Generals (22-6, 5-1 RRAC) came back with a three-run home run in the sixth inning of the nightcap to pull out a 4-3 victory.
The two teams wrap up the four-game conference series on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
Hockenbury put the Jaguars up quickly, when she hit the first of her two two-run home runs in the first inning. The blast drove in Gabby Davila (SO/Houston, TX) who had lead off the game with a single.
Then after the Generals grabbed a 3-2 lead in the fourth, Hockenbury struck again. This time it was a two-out, two-run blast to left that again scored Davila.
Haley Beam (SR/Pearland, Texas) earned the win in the circle allowing three runs on six hits and a walk over four innings. Revels pitched three scoreless innings for her first save of the season.
LSUA's Julinn Torres did all the damage for the Generals in Game 2.
Torres had a solo home run in the fourth and added her three-run, game-winning blast in the sixth.
The Jaguars took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single to left-center by Madeline Herrera (JR/Baytown, Texas) that scored Davila.
UHV would add two more in the third on a two-out, two-run single by Emily Flores (FR/Houston, TX). Revels opened the inning with a double to right-center and Hockenbury then beat out an infield single to third. Flores then delivered her two-out single to deep right-center.
Revels was tagged with the loss in the circle as she allowed four runs on three hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. Beam pitched the final two-thirds and struck out two.
