UHV's Haley Beam teamed with Michelle Revels for a 3-hit shutout against Texas Wesleyan on Saturday.
FORT WORTH – The University of Houston-Victoria softball team swept two games Saturday to finish with a 4-1 record at the NAIA College Cowtown Classic at Gateway Park.
The 18th-ranked Jaguars went extra innings in the opening game to claim a 4-3 win over Tabor College with a two-run ninth. Haley Beam (SR/Pearland, Texas) and Michelle Revels (SO/Corpus Christi, TX) then combined to toss a three-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory over Texas Wesleyan in Game 2.
UHV and Tabor each scored unearned runs to end regulation play tied a 1-1 forcing an international tie breaker.
Tabor tallied a solo run in the top of the eighth but the Jaguars answered back on a pinch-hit single by Emily Flores (FR/Houston, TX).
After Tabor struck again for a solo run in the ninth, the Jaguars picked up two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to claim the victory. Beam's sacrifice fly plated the first run and Madeline Herrera (JR/Baytown, Texas) followed with a walk-off RBI single.
Torey Dumont (SO/Pleasanton, TX) started and worked five innings for the Jaguars allowing one run on six hits, before giving way to Savannah Crittenden (SR/LaPorte, TX) who tossed the final four innings for the win.
Beam was untouchable in Game 2 as the Rams were held without a hit and only mustered a leadoff walk against the senior right-hander. Revels came on in the fifth and tossed the final three innings allowing just three hits.
The Jaguars (4-1) tallied an unearned run in the first and then added three more in the third.
Crittenden got the scoring going in the third with an RBI single, before Beam used her bat to hurt the Rams in more with a two-run triple.
The Jaguars will return to action on Friday and Saturday when the open Red River Athletic Conference play in Austin with a pair of doubleheaders against the Huston-Tillotson Rams.
