LAREDO – The University of Houston-Victoria women's golf team open the spring with its best round of the year and is currently in fourth place at the Jack Brown Memorial Golf Tournament.
The Jaguars posted an opening round 339 at Laredo Country Club, which ties the team's lowest round of the year, and are 31 shots back of first-round lead and host Texas A&M-International. The Dustdevils carded a 308 and are five shots up on Houston St. Thomas (313) and 17 up on Texas A&M-Kingsville (325). UT-Permian Basin is in fifth place with a 359.
The Jaguars posted a 339 in their final round of the fall at the Oklahoma City Susie Maxwell Berning Classic.
Shelbi Vincent (SR/Nederland, TX) leads the Jaguars with a 76 and is in a three-way tie for third place, five shots back of leader Race Yu of TAMUI. Yu posted a 1-under par 71, while Katy Colson of St. Thomas is in second with a 72.
Following Vincent for the UHV, Viviana Yzquierdo (FR/Barbers Hills, TX) and Reid Whaley (SO/Nederland, TX) each posted 85s and Jo Ellen Canales (SO/Corpus Christi, TX) had a 93.
The final round of the tournament is schedule to tee off at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
