The University of Houston-Victoria women's soccer team was recognized this week as a National Soccer Coaches Association of America academic team, while two members of the UHV men's soccer team were named to the NSCAA NAIA/NCCAA Men's Scholar All-South Regional Academic Team.

The UHV women's soccer team compiled a 3.18 grade point average for the 2015-2016 school year and were one of 918 soccer teams from throughout the United States to earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team.

To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.

Meanwhile, senior Marcus Watt and junior Reece Hannigan were named to the MSCAA Men's Scholar All-South Region Team.

Watt, a business major from Montrose, Scotland, compiled a 3.49 GPA, while Hannigan, a business major from Sutton Surrey, England, compiled a 3.39 GPA during the 2015-16 school year. They were two of the 19 players selected to the All-South Region Team.
