WACO – James Rollins (FR/Liberty Hill, TX) stands just outside the top 10, while his University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars men's golf team is tied for sixth after the first round of the McLennan Community College Dr. Pepper Open at the Twin Rivers Golf Club.
Rollins is in a five-way tie for 11th place after posting an opening round 4-over par 76, just six shots of the pace of opening-round leader Kyle Karnei of Abilene Christian. Karnei posted a 2-under 70.
The Jaguars meanwhile are in at 316 and tied with Tyler Junior College and the McLennan second team. New Mexico Junior College holds the first round lead with a 299, with Hutchinson Community College two strokes back at 301.
Ranger College holds down third place with a 307, with Abilene Christian a shot back at 308 and McLennan A another shot back at 309 in the 11-team field.
Behind Rollins for UHV, Preston Woodard (JR/Mansfield, TX) added a 78, Adrian Saenz (SO/Brownsville, TX) an 81, Brett Currie (FR/Richmond, TX) an 81, Cristian Esparza (JR/Houston, TX) an 82, Zachary Blevins (FR/Victoria, TX) an 83 and Terry Strickland (FR/Missouri City, TX) a 96.
The final round is scheduled for Tuesday.
