Former Calhoun High School standout pitcher Porsha Ramos has signed a letter of intent to join the University of Houston-Victoria's softball team for the 2010-11 season.
Ramos, a sophomore, transfers from Alvin Community College where she pitched one year for the Dolphins.
"I felt it was a good opportunity for me as it will provide me with a good educational opportunity and will be closer to home," Ramos said. "They also have a good program and a good coach and when we played against them last year they really impressed me."
Ramos was a three-time district MVP during her career at Calhoun where she led the Sandies to back-to-back playoff appearances as a junior and senior. During her senior season she finished with a 14-4 record and a 1.44 ERA. She tossed 97 innings and struck out 106. At the plate she hit .491 with 22 RBI and 51 runs scored.
Along with her district MVP honors, she was also named to the 2008 Texas Sports Writers Class 4A all-state second team as a designated player/utility position.
Last season with the Dolphins, she picked up a win against the Jaguars as she tossed a complete game allowing five runs on eight hits in a 7-5 win.
