Four-time all-state pitcher Megan Carter has signed a letter of intent to play softball at the University of Houston-Victoria.
Carter, a freshman from Woodsboro, is a four-year letter winner for the Eagles and a four-sport athlete. Along with her outstanding softball career, she was an all-state performer in track and field and played volleyball and basketball.
"I came to watch the team play a few times and they were awesome and I just decided that's where I wanted to play," Carter said. "It's also close to home and that is something I was looking for as well."
In leading Woodsboro to three straight regional playoff appearances, Carter was named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association all-state team all four years in high school, and was selected to the Texas Sports Writers Association's all-state third team in 2007, first team in 2008 and as honorable mention in 2009.
The stalwart pitcher has been Woodsboro's ace in the circle since the program began four years ago. She compiled a 77-32 record with 27 shutouts, 15 no-hitters and six perfect games during her high school career. She was also named to the TGCA all-star team this season and competed against some of the best in Class 1A, 2A and 3A at the July 13 game in Arlington.
"It was really a exciting and a great experience," Carter said. "It was definitely different from playing regular high school games because everyone there is good and wants to win, so it was a really good experience for me going into college."
Last season as a senior, she compiled a .395 batting average with 35 RBI and struck out 158 in the circle. She was also named to the TGCA academic all-state team and was All-South Texas honorable mention.
Carter also was a member of the Texas Trouble U18 select team out of Victoria that won the 2010 Texas ASA State Championship this summer.
