University of Houston-Victoria golf coach Brian Williamson has announced the signing of six signees to the Jaguars' inaugural men's golf program.
Two players from England, both Western Texas College transfers, lead the group of signees.
James Price, of Buckingham, England, and Matthew Law, of Wiltshire, England, should provide a one-two punch for the Jaguars after transferring from Western Texas College according to Williamson.
"Both are outstanding players," Williamson said. "Matt is a proven winner, very smart and has all the tools to be a great competitor, while James has great course management skills and is sound in every aspect of the game."
Price played his junior golf at Buckinghamshire Golf Club and Great Yarmouth. He placed third at the 2008 Western Junior College Athletic Association championships and was named all-conference.
Law finished tied for 10th at the WJCAC event and was named to the all-conference team as well. Law also posted a 69-69-72 to win the 2008 NJCAA national preview in Atlanta. He also claimed his club championship with a 72-70 and hopes to one day play either on the U.S. or European tour.
Joining Price and Law will be Travis Chrietzberg, a transfer from Texarkana College; Cory Anderson, a transfer from Ranger College; Eric Garza, a freshman from Falfurrias; and Freddie Ramirez, a freshman from Progresso.
Chrietzberg began playing competitively at the age of 9 and competed in North Texas PGA, Texas Legends and AJGA tournaments.
"He's another great competitor and brings maturity and experience to the team and will continue to develop," Williamson said.
Chrietzberg was a member of the Longview Pine Tree golf team and was all-district and a regional qualifier all four years. He earned a spot in the state tournament his senior season and finished tied for 12th in the Class 4A tournament.
"I'm looking forward to continuing my education and golf career at UHV under the leadership of Coach Williamson," Chrietzberg said.
Anderson attended high school at Keller Central High School and had a 74.7 scoring average at Ranger College. He also served as one of the team captains at Ranger.
"He's a natural leader and can play any type of course and will be a very sound influence on our younger players," Williamson said.
Garza earned a spot in the UIL Class 3A state tournament the past two years as an individual medalist. In 2009 he captured the Region IV-3A title with a two-day 148 and then finished third at the state tournament after losing in a playoff. Garza posted a 70-74-144 at the state tournament to tie for second and force a playoff.
"He's an outstanding young man with great potential," Williamson said. "We're looking for him to step right in and develop to the next level very quickly."
This past year, Garza finished third at the Region IV-3A tournament with a 74-75-149 and tied for 22nd at the rain-shortened state tournament after posting a 78-39-117.
Ramirez lettered three seasons at Progresso and was the only member of District 32-3A to qualify for the Region IV-3A tournament three consecutive years. He captured District 32-3A individual medalists honors this past season as a senior and finished as the district runner-up his sophomore season.
"Freddie is another one that should be able to help us right away," Williamson said. "He's had a great high school experience and is a great competitor."
