University of Houston-Victoria softball coach Keri Lambeth has announced the signing of two sophomore transfers from Our Lady of the Lake University to the Jaguars softball team.

Pitcher Dawn Villegas and second baseman/outfielder Corina Noel have committed to play for the Jaguars in the 2011 season.

Villegas, a San Marcos High School graduate, was the 2010 Red River All-Conference Player of the Year after compiling an 11-5 record with a 3.20 ERA. In 13 starts, she tossed five complete games including four shutouts.

The right hander also had three saves as she worked 102.2 innings allowing 55 runs on 94 hits and 35 walks with 80 strikeouts.

At the plate, Villegas compiled a .412 average while bashing out 49 hits in 119 at bats with 26 runs and 32 RBI. She also belted three home runs and eight doubles.

Noel, a graduate of King High School in Kingsville, was the 2010 Red River All-Conference Newcomer of the Year.

In 45 games, Noel compiled a .409 batting average with 48 runs and a team-high 43 RBI for the Saints. She led the team with nine home runs and three triples, while also banging out nine doubles.

"To get two proven players like Dawn and Corina is a big plus for our program," Lambeth said. "They should be able to make an immediate impact."

Both players were also named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NAIA All-Region second team in the Southwest Region.
