The University of Houston-Victoria has signed five more players to its inaugural women's soccer program.

Chelsea DeLeon (Houston), Marissa Cervantez (Temple), Janae Gonzales (Portland), Margaret Reesman (Magnolia), and Markie Alaniz (Kingsville) have committed to play with the Jaguars, who begin play in August.

"All five should bring a good mix to the team and give us a solid core to begin the inaugural season," UHV soccer coach Adrian Rigby said in announcing the signings.

DeLeon, a graduate of J. Frank Dobie High School, earned District 22-5A Defensive MVP honors this past season and helped the Longhorns to the area playoffs. She currently plays club ball with South West United and has played club ball for Space City, United Alliance, Quest and Southbelt.

"I am excited to play soccer and be part of the first UHV freshman class," DeLeon said.

Cervantez was the Temple High School MVP and offensive player of the year after leading the Wildcats to the bi-district playoffs.

She is a two-time first team all-district selection and has also earned second-team honors during her high school career. She was selected to the All-Region II team by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches and was academic all-district her senior year.

Gonzales was a four-year letterman for Gregory-Portland and served as team captain. She was named second team all-district as a forward her junior year and second team all-district as a midfielder her senior year.

Reesman was an All-District 40-4A honorable mention selection and helped guide her Lady Mustangs to the area playoffs. In district play, she scored three goals and had three assists. She also earned all-academic honors at Magnolia West High School.

"I wanted to become part of a legacy, first 200, and help create a great new soccer program," Reesman said in choosing UHV.

Alaniz was a member of the Kingsville Brahmas bi-district playoff team where she earned second team all-district honors as a defender. She also earned honorable mention all-district honors as a defender in 2008.

A Texas Scholar, Alaniz also plays for the Tuloso-Midway Cherokees club squad and is a former member of the KYSO Kingsville Sparks.

"Having the opportunity to be the first freshman class at UHV and being a member of the first women's soccer team is very exciting," Alaniz said. "This is a once in a lifetime experience and I will always be able to brag about it."
