Former Memorial Vipers standout Jeremy Urbano will continue his baseball career after signing a letter of intent to play baseball with the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars.

"Jeremy is a quality athlete that will work hard to improve his hitting and throwing skills," UHV head baseball coach Terry Puhl said. "I believe he could be a wonderful two-way player that offers the City of Victoria a local talent that could become a team leader in the future."

Urbano, an All-District 27-5A second team second baseman, hit .368 for the Vipers this past season. He drove in 15 runs, scored 23 and had eight doubles and a home run in 27 games. Urbano also received the Vipers' Gold Glove Infield award.

"I wasn't ready to stop at the high school level and wanted to continue playing baseball and UHV is giving me that opportunity," Urbano said.

Urbano said he is looking forward to continuing his career under the guidance of coach Puhl.

"It's a great program and I've heard a lot about coach Puhl and that he's a really good coach and I want to see what he can teach me to help me further develop as a player," Urbano said.

The Jaguars are coming off a 33-22 season after winning their second straight Association of Independent Institutions conference title.
