Rebounding from a 1-10 start, the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars feel they still have plenty to prove going into the 2010 Association of Independent Institutions Conference Baseball Tournament to be held May 4-8 at Pringles Park in Jackson, Tenn.

The Jaguars, 27-20 on the year, will enter the A.I.I. Tournament seeded fourth and will face third-seeded Cal St.-San Marcos in the opening game at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5. CSU-San Marcos is currently 30-13.

Host Lambuth University (34-16) will be the tournament's top seed, while Thomas University (31-15) is seeded second. The rest of the field includes fifth-seeded LSU-Alexandria and sixth-seeded Voorhees University.

"This team has come a long way since the start of the season, but we still have plenty to prove in this tournament, said Terry Puhl, UHV head baseball coach. "We have to keep doing all the little things right and stay focused."

The Jaguars have been able to turn things around this season after the slow start and enter the tournament on a hot streak having won eight of their last 10 games and 12 of their last 15 as well. The streak includes a doubleheader sweep over Texas Wesleyan on Sunday by scores of 7-2 and 9-2.

"This is a big step for this team after the slow start the Jaguars experienced earlier this season," said UHV Athletics Director Ashley Walyuchow. "Being able to earn a bid to this tournament speaks highly of the character and heart this team has shown throughout the year."

The six team double-elimination tournament starts with three games on the first three days (May 5-7) and two slated for May 8, championship day beginning at 11 a.m.

Tickets for the tournament can be purchased on game day at the stadium.

The winner earns a berth into the first round of the NAIA National Championship on May 18-21 and an opportunity to advance to the Avista-NAIA World Series on May 28-June 4 at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho.
