The Jaguars softball team raised the Jaguar Jersey Monday morning for the first time in the 2009 season to celebrate two victories at the Galveston Island Invitational Tournament over the weekend.

"The tournament helped us to see specific things we need to work on," team captain Kristin Lindley said. "It was a good way to start the season."
A team Jaguar Jersey is flown on one of the UHV flagpoles on the first school day after a winning game. Fans are invited to join the players in the tradition.
The girls also raised a jersey for the baseball team's 7-1 victory Saturday over Bacone College in Muskogee, Okla.

Additional prints can be purchased for a small fee, part of which goes to support athletic scholarships. Photos are displayed on the Jaguars Web site at uhvjaguars.com. There is no charge to participate.

The Jaguars softball team will play its first home game of the season Feb. 14 at the St. Joseph-O'Connor Athletic Complex, one block northeast of Airline and Navarro.
