The University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars are within a game of the .500 mark after a 4 game sweep of the Louisiana State University at Alexandria Generals.

The Jaguars took the first game, 1-0 after an exciting pitchers' duel that featured a combined 19 strikeouts.  UHV's Broc Haymon struck out 10, giving up just 2 hits in going the distance. 
 
John Longoria drove in the game's only run with a triple in the second inning to score Jose Quintanilla.  Haymon gave up singles in the first and second and struck out a total of 10 LSUA batters over the final 6 innings to pick up the win and improve to 2-1.
 
The Generals Aryo Fleming also went the distance, scattering just 4 hits and striking out 9.
 
In Game two, the Jags rallied for 4 in the top of the seventh to pull out a come from behind 5-2 victory. 
 
Jerrod Dugas got things rolling with an infield single and advanced to second when Joey Briones reached on an error.  Dugas advanced to third on Austin Kent's fielder's choice and then scored on a passed ball.  Ryan Gilbert then tripled to deep right-center to score Kent.  Anthony Phillips follwed with a double that scored Gilbert.  David Baker drove in the fourth and final run of the inning when he singled in Phillips.
 
Rex Garner picked up the win in relief of starter Zack Moya.
   
Game 3 was another close one that saw the Jags pullout the win in an extra inning. 
UHV jumped out to a 3-1 lead after 2 innings and led 6-4 in the seventh when the Generals rallied to score 2 and force the extra inning.
 
In the eighth, John Longoria reached on a walk, stole second and was sacrificed to third by Josh Bromburg.  Longoria scored the winning run on Jerrod Dugas' sacrifice fly.  Rex Garner retired the side in order to pick up his second win of the weekend.
 
Game 4 was a 15-0 blowout victory by the Jaguars and was called after 5 innings due to the mercy-run rule. 
 
John Longoria went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 4 RBIs to pace the Jaguars offensively.  Austin Kent hit a 2 run homer, his second home run of the year, and also had 2 doubles resulting in a total of 3 RBIs.  Kent now leads the team with 11 doubles on the season.
 
Bobby Gomez  (3-3) pitched his first shut out of the year, scattering 5 hits in 5 innings and struck out 6 in earning the win.
 
In another encouraging development, the Jaguars played error free ball all four games, after being plagued by mistakes to start the season.
 
Since opening the season with a 1-10 record, the Jaguars have won 14 of their last 20 games, including 5 straight and 9 of their last 10.
 
The Jaguars return home this weekend, for 4 games against Fisher College from Boston.
