The University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars baseball team celebrated its weekend victories by raising the first Jaguar Jersey of 2009 on Tuesday morning with a little help from employees at DeTar Healthcare System.

A crowd of Jaguars baseball players and fans from DeTar Healthcare System helps raise the first Jaguar Jersey of the 2009 season Tuesday morning. Among those observing the victory tradition were Jaguars Head Coach Terry Puhl (second to the right of the flagpole), DeTar Healthcare Systems Chief Executive Officer Bill Blanchard (left of pole), DeTar staff members, (middle rows) and the Jaguars baseball team (front and back rows).

A team Jaguar Jersey is flown on one of the UHV flagpoles on the first school day after a winning game. Fans are invited to join the players in the tradition.

The baseball team, including Head Coach Terry Puhl, was on hand to mark the occasion. DeTar staff members got to meet the players. Puhl, a former Houston Astros outfielder, signed autographs.

"We're off to a great start," UHV Athletics Director Ashley Walyuchow said. "DeTar is a wonderful supporter. We're glad they could join us as we celebrate what I am sure will be the first of many victories this season."

Fans who help raise the Jaguar Jersey get a free 5-by-7 photo of the event courtesy of On The Edge Photography. Additional prints can be purchased for a small fee, part of which goes to support athletic scholarships. Photos are displayed on the Jaguars Web site at uhvjaguars.com. There is no charge to participate.
